Celebrating Young Designers Sewing Program
As new entrants into the world of design ourselves, we appreciate what it takes to bring a fashion vision into reality. So our hats are off to the girls participating in the Young Designers Sewing Program.
It's Not All About the Clothes
Created and led by the incomparable Lillian Kincey, the program not only teaches these young women how to sew and design clothing, it also enriches their academic, entrepreneurial and social skills. Girls from the 4th through 12th grades polish math, reading and vocabulary skills, etiquette and manners, as well as learning about accounting, marketing and budgeting. And they create some beautiful clothes along the way!
The Young Designers recently put on their annual fashion show, where the girls modeled the clothing they had made, with looks ranging from casual pants and tops to graduation dresses and evening wear. For this year’s show, the girls used fabric from around the world that had been gathered and donated by friends of the program in their travels. We were in awe.
